Valentine’s day is a wonderful occasion to prepare a pleasure for your second half. To gladden my girlfriend I did all the job described in this post twice!

To make such a toy I needed:

1. One Microcontroller ATmega88

2. 22 red SMD- Light-emitting diodes (it’s better to take more)

3. 22 SMD-resistors 620 Om (analogical)

4. 1 SMD-resistor 10 kОm

5. 1 SMD-capacitor 0.1 mkF

6. 2 SMD-crosspieces

7. Glass-reinforced plastic

8. Programmer STK500V2

9. Photoresist

10. Household Soda

11. Caustic Soda

12. Iron Chloride

13. Beer (optional)

Draw scheme. According to this scheme we will later set the board. Then we download NET-list (a list of chains) and archive library of used components from the scheme editor.

Set the board. All components for surface-mounting.

Stick film type Photoresist at the board.

Like when you are tinting car windscreens, the most important is not to allow any air bubbles.

Wrap the board into the paper and let it through the laminated sheet twice, so that Photoresist better sticks to the board.

Now print a photo template. The template should face the board with its toner side, so don’t forget to print the sheets mirroring.

Put photo template at the board, additionally press it with glass. Switch on UF-lamp for 3 minutes. Actually according to what the theory says it’s better to use Poly (methyl methacrylate), but a usual glass from a book shelf also works well.

After photographic processing take off the drap from the top.

Prepare the developer. Take usual boiled or filtered water, to lower hardness of water. There are usually problems with heavy water. You will also need soda (NaCO3). Proportions are — a teaspoon for 100 ml of water.

Check the board. The image that was lightened with ultra light will stay on the board, the rest will dissolve.

The survival board ready for etching.

Prepare an etching solution of Iron Chloride. We’ll need Iron Chloride and water (now it can be any water). Proportion 1 to 3.

Etch the board. Be careful, Iron Chloride is difficult to wash up from hands and furniture and especially it's difficult to wash from clothes.

The board is almost ready.

The board is completely etched and prepared for Photoresist.

Make a solution for Photoresist removing.Take usual water and caustic soda, you already know the concentration — one teaspoon for 100 ml of water.

Remove Photoresist, use rubber gloves, the solution is quite caustic.

Wash.

Braze the components at the board according to the scheme.

Start coding. For programming and flashing the WinAVR packet will be enough.

You can spend a day or the whole night for programming, but it's really interesting. I stood awake till 4 am programming this thing.

After I coped with all this I soldered battaries and hercon to the board, then I put the board into a case with a magnet on the top, so that, when the box is closed, permanent magnet field breaks hecon.
