Google brings into being its Chrome Frame: an open source plugin for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. The plugin that weights around 500 Kb can be installed on IE 6, 7, or 8 without any additional coding and allows IE to support HTML5 and other modern web technologies that Explorer just can’t handle at the moment. Despite of Internet Explorer is still being the most wide spread browser, the majority of its users are unhappy with it. Of course, speaking of web standards & technologies, in the latest versions of IE things started to get better, but it is still far behind the niche’s monsters: Opera, FireFox, Chrome, and Safari.

So what the plugin does? In brief, it actually turns IE into Chrome giving it practically all the features of Google’s browser. The plugin itself weights around 500 Kb, but it has to download 10 Mb of data from the web to perform correctly on IE. To optimize a web page for Chrome Frame, web developers should simply add HTML tag in the meta section. In case CF is not detected, the page will just load as it usually does under Internet Explorer. What is interesting is that Microsoft had already criticized CF saying it may cause harm to IE security system. As Microsoft’s spokeperson said, "With Internet Explorer 8, we made significant advancements and updates to make the browser safer for our customers. Given the security issues with plugins in general and Google Chrome in particular, Google Chrome Frame running as a plugin has doubled the attach area for malware and malicious scripts. This is not a risk we would recommend our friends and families take." The fact that Google had spent its time to make IE not so lame as it is actually is speaks for itself. IE is dead, period. Yes, of course they will release IE 10 in the nearest future, but one could just imagine what will be their competitors by that time… Learn more about Chrome plugin by watching this one:
