Fleet Tracker, Teen Tracker for AirWave Wireless
The Client
Tracker Systems Inc. (subdivision of AirWave Wireless Inc.) was established in late 2003 as a company dedicated to developing innovative applications in the emerging field of Location Based Services. It is our belief that these types of services do not need to be expensive and that when the product (or service) is tailored to meet the user's requirements, high degrees of both feature and functionality can be delivered with economy.
The Scope
Develop a J2ME application with basic tracking capabilities and integrate it with the AirWave Wireless server back-end.
The Solution
In a meter of days, Azoft came with a ready-to-test solution. Downloadable J2ME midlet periodically requests phone GPS receiver and sends location data to AirWave server. AirWave mapping solution draws GPS pings on the map and shows the trip of a person or vehicle. Later, to minimize phone Internet traffic usage and HTTP overheads, the protocol of communication between phone and server was switched to support UDP packets. Authorization and midlet configuration settings were added to provide greater application usability and user friendliness. Parents and fleet operators are able to receive email notifications with GPS pings. Also, specially designed web mapping application was created to visualize GPS data online.
The Challenge
The solution was designed to be accessible for as many customers as possible at the time of its deployment. Therefore, Motorola Nextel i730, Nextel i58sr and Nextel i88s Internet, GPS and J2ME capable phones were chosen as a target platform.
The Outcome
AirWave Wireless Inc. received a cost-effective, scalable and innovative solution that value-added AirWave services.
